What makes your library special?
If you'd like to share the answer to this question, you are encouraged to enter an essay contest sponsored by Woman's Day magazine. They would like to hear what makes your library(that's us!) special, why it's important, and how it enriches the lives of you and your neighbors. Up to four stories will be published online or in print in Woman's Day. The contest is for women ages 18 and up, and entries are due on May 9th. Click here for more information.
Discovery is here!
Our new Discovery online catalog has arrived. Give it a try by typing in the search box under "Find Books, Movies, and Music" on the right side of the page or by clicking here. Discovery is an exciting new way to explore your library's collection. Search for anything, and along with the item's record, you will see a word cloud on your left and a list on the right to help you narrow down your options. You can also set-up a "My Discoveries" account to create lists, and tag, rate and review items. If you'd like to learn more or see a demonstration, stop by the Reference Desk or the Youth Services Desk.
A Snapshot: One Day in the Life of the Franklin Park Library
On February 10th, Illinois libraries participated in “Snapshot: One Day in the Life of Your Library” by collecting information, comments, and photographs from events in a typical library day. Thanks so much to our new Friends Group for their hard work throughout the day. The results below provide indisputable proof that the Franklin Park Library consistently provides invaluable services to our community.
- 359 people made their way to the library
- 162 of these people live in Franklin Park
Thank You!

Support Your Library!
On Wednesday, February 10th, the library will be participating in an all-day, state-wide event with other libraries called Snapshot: One Day in the Life of Your Library. This event hopes to show how important Illinois libraries are to their communities. We will be gathering statistics, taking photos, and recording your comments. Your presence is needed; please come out to show your support!
Send Us a Valentine
How much do you love your library? Let us know by sending us a valentine. Blank valentine cards are scattered all over the library for you to fill out. (You can fill out more than one if you want.) Drop your valentine cards off in the various valentine mailboxes or at the Reference Desk.
As a Valentine's Day present to you, there's a big bowl of valentine candy (until supplies run out) across from the main entrance.
Winter Fun with the Museum Adventure Pass Program
It might be cold and snowy outside, but you can still have fun with free passes from the Museum Adventure Pass Program. One example of an exciting, upcoming program is the Husky Heroes event this weekend at the Morton Arboretum. The event is free (admission for 4 is covered by the M.A.P. Program), and will include Siberian husky sled pulling, skijoring, speed demonstrations, movie showings, and meeting the huskies. All you need is your library card. Ask at the Reference Desk or Youth Services Desk for more details.
Skate Away with a Good Book!
Sign-up for the Adult Winter Reading Program, "Skate Away with a Good Book," starts on Monday, January 11th at the Reference Desk. Once you sign-up, you'll receive your Reading Packet, which contains Reading Reviews, bookmarks, brochures, and a pen. Read or listen to as many books as you want from January 11th until the end of the program on March 5th. Turn in your Reading Reviews in person or submit them online. All Reading Reviews are eligible for great prizes from our drawing at the end.
