Conversation Circles Forming

a conversation circle

Are you new to this country? Are you trying to practice speaking confidently in English? The Library is interested in forming informal conversation circles to give English language learners a chance to practice speaking (and listening to) English in everyday situations. The sessions will run about 40 minutes, and topics of conversations will be picked by the participants. This is not a class, it is an opportunity to practice what you have been learning from Ingles sin Barreras and other phrase books with a group of sympathetic listeners. For more information, contact Janet at 847-455-6016, ext. 222.

If you'd like to share the answer to this question, you are encouraged to enter an essay contest sponsored by Woman's Day magazine. They would like to hear what makes your library(that's us!) special, why it's important, and how it enriches the lives of you and your neighbors. Up to four stories will be published online or in print in Woman's Day. The contest is for women ages 18 and up, and entries are due on May 9th. Click here for more information.

Discovery is here!

Discovery

Our new Discovery online catalog has arrived. Give it a try by typing in the search box under "Find Books, Movies, and Music" on the right side of the page or by clicking here. Discovery is an exciting new way to explore your library's collection. Search for anything, and along with the item's record, you will see a word cloud on your left and a list on the right to help you narrow down your options. You can also set-up a "My Discoveries" account to create lists, and tag, rate and review items. If you'd like to learn more or see a demonstration, stop by the Reference Desk or the Youth Services Desk.
