It's National Library Week: 4/14 - 4/20!

This annual event is a celebration of libraries, librarians, and library workers.

2013's theme is "Communities Matter @ Your Library," and you matter to us! While we still have plenty of books, we are evolving to meet your changing needs through our wide range of services, programming, and online resources for all ages. We continually expand on our offerings, and always welcome your suggestions on ways we can improve.

April 2013 Election Results

Go here to get started with viewing the results from the April 9, 2013 suburban Cook County Consolidated Election. Then click on "Search."

The site also gives you an option to limit your results. If you leave it set to "All," you can view all suburban Cook County election results. If you narrow by township (such as "Leyden"), you can view the local results for a specific township.

Tax Season Resources 2013

Monday, April 15, 2013 is Tax Day. We have extension forms for federal (Form 4868) and state (Form IL 505-I) filings. We also have the major 2012 federal tax forms, miscellaneous tax forms, and instruction booklets. Limited quantities of Illinois tax forms are available. If you need help locating a form, ask at the Information Desk.

Have a Library Card? You Could Win a Prize!

Use your Franklin Park Library Card to check out an item during April 14 - 20, and you'll earn a chance to enter our gift card drawing. If you don't have a library card, sign-up for your very own library card from April 14 - 20 to be eligible to win a prize, too. We're awarding a $10 gift card to a lucky winner from these three groups: kids, teens, and adults.

A Thank You to the Franklin Park Woman's Club

Did you know that the Franklin Park Library was founded by the Franklin Park Woman's Club? Learn more about the role of Franklin Park Woman's Club in our history.

On Thursday, April 25, we'll be presenting the Franklin Park Woman's Club with a cake at their monthly meeting as a demonstration of our appreciation for their continued support.

Food for Fines

Food for Fines returns for National Library Week!

From April 14 - 20, Circulation Services will accept non-perishable food items in exchange for library fines. $1.00 in fines will be waived per item. All donations are given to a local food pantry.

Donations cannot be used to pay for lost, damaged, replacement materials or those sent to the collection agency.

Looking for LEGOs!

Are your LEGOs no longer being played with and sadly gathering dust? Why not give them a second life by donating them to the Library?

We are looking for donations of new or gently-used LEGO and DUPLO sets to start a LEGO Club for kids. LEGOs aren't just fun to play with, but they also encourage creativity, cooperative play, fine motor skills, develop planning skills and help to focus concentration. Please consider giving your LEGOs and DUPLOs a new home at the Library! We will accept your donations at the Information Desk and the Kids' Desk.

Lending Policy Changes

These changes to our lending policy take effect from 3/1/2013 onward:

Renewals for most audio-visual materials

  • DVDs and VHS tapes may now be renewed. There are two exceptions - NEW DVDs may not be renewed, and if there is a hold on a DVD or VHS tape, it may not be renewed.

Decrease in fees when borrowing items

  • If you live outside Franklin Park, fees will only apply to NEW items (NEW books on CD, NEW music CDs, NEW DVDs).

Museum Adventure Pass Program

The adventure continues in 2013 with our Museum Adventure Pass Program. Use your Franklin Park Library card year round to receive admission or a special discount from a variety of area museums and attractions. Our newest museum partners are Legoland Discovery Center and Naper Settlement, and we still have favorites like Brookfield Zoo, Chicago Botanic Garden, and Cantigny Park.
