The children’s fiction collection is comprised of titles meeting the recreational and educational needs of children preschool age and older. Books include selections in such areas as mystery, sports, science fiction, fantasy, adventure, humor, and historical fiction. Also included in this collection are classics such as books by Louisa May Alcott, Mark Twain, and Jules Verne. Special consideration is given to award-winning children’s fiction.
The children’s nonfiction collection is comprised of titles meeting the recreational, informational, and educational needs of children preschool age and older. A special emphasis is the collection of folk and fairy tales.
The Reference collection in the Youth Services Department is comprised of titles that assist children in responding to classroom assignments and other informational needs. The collection consists of sets of general encyclopedias and specialized sets that cover such subjects as science and geography. The collection also contains sets and reference titles pertaining to children’s literature that assist Youth Services Staff and adult patrons seeking information in this area.
The music sound recording collection includes CDs with appeal for infants through preteens. This collection includes, but is not limited to, nursery rhymes, popular children’s music, and holiday music.
The spoken word audiocassette and CD collection consists primarily of fiction titles. In addition to sound recordings of popular children’s and YA fiction books, the Library also maintains a separate collection of kits that include a book and an audiotape or CD. The kit collection also consists primarily of fiction titles.
The CD-ROM collection is comprised of titles meeting the recreational and educational needs of children preschool age and older. This collection contains primarily games and instructional materials.
