Instant Messaging
Instant Messaging (IM) is a means of real-time communication by typed text via the Internet. IM is like a typed phone call or face-to-face conversation with two or more people talking to one another at the same time.
The Franklin Park Public Library has implemented IM reference service dubbed Ask a Librarian to better serve you.
- The Ask A Librarian service is located on right side of every Franklin Park Public Library web page.
- Ask a Librarian is totally free.
- No need to sign-up or register.
- To use Ask a Librarian type a question in the lower box of the Meebo widget (circled in red) and press enter.
- Make sure the librarian is online by observing "askfppl is online" (circled in blue). If the librarian is not online call or e-mail us and we will respond as soon as possible.
- We will answer your query as soon as possible. Our responses will come up in the upper box (circled in green).
- It is possible to edit your nickname but not necessary.
- If you want to maintain a consistent conversation while using other webpages/sites use multiple tabs or have multiple internet browser windows open: one with the IM conversation and one or more to navigate through the web.
- Give it a shot!
