Re: independent library districts
An independent library district is in a better position to be an important presence and asset to the community. A district can respond to the community’s wants and needs directly, and often more quickly. A village library may be able to fulfill the same role in the community if village government shares the vision of the importance of the library to the community. As an example, in difficult economic times, library funding might be one of the first places village governments will cut spending. Even though during these difficult times, the library is a place that provide help with job searching, resumes writing, Internet access, and free to low cost entertainment needs.
Regarding overhead, whether a village library or independent library district, we both have about the same administrative functions.
Non-DuPage Library System Patron and a non-residence
I am a Non-DuPage Library System Patron and a non-residence; is it possible to obtain a library membership?
I am a truck driver that transports air freight between O'Hare Airport, Chicago and JFK, New York.
I often have some free time on hand and, I have been utilizing your internet access so that I can use my laptop computer.
Re: Non-DuPage Library System Patron
What you can do is apply for a library card at your home library. Then come to our Circulation Desk and have your library card registered so you can borrow items. There may be some fees to check out certain items. Please let us know if you have any more questions. We hope you enjoy using the library!
independent library districts
Does being an independent library district add any extra "overhead" to the function of a library system? Or does it result in a community having a greater sense of ownership and stakehold? What is your experience? Are there any resources comparing this?
